Watching Hoodies

Hooded Mergansers are a great treat to watch and we’ve had many this Spring. The other day, I went up to a local pond with Sally and the dog, and there were over a dozen. Here are a few shots I grabbed.

There were a few hens up ahead so they motored.

One of the interesting things we saw were them diving under sheets of ice to feed. They returned shortly and then did it again. It’s nice to know they’re on our river and we’ll see them until Fall.
